- Reading Nook -Did you know that the Houston Gator Club® is setting pace for others to follow? Click here to find out more about the Houston Gator Club® Reading Nook! The Houston Gator Club® is setting the pace for others to follow with its sponsorship of the fourth floor-reading nook in the new Humanities and Social Sciences Library. Adjacent to faculty carrels, the nook will be quiet, serene, and private. Comprised of two four-person study tables, the nook will be a destination area for all levels of students, both undergraduate and graduate. The 115-sq. ft. nook will be flooded with natural light from a north window as well as from a south-looking roof access door with glass. The area will have access to the Internet through wireless technology. A plaque with the Houston Gator Club® name along with individual donors’ names will be prominently placed on the wall for all to see. The Houston Gator Club® is continuing to solicit pledges from our members to give us a strong foundation to reach our goal of raising $25,000 in the next 5 years for this reading nook. Donations of $50 for 5 consecutive years will be our Gold Level, $100 for 5 consecutive years will be our Platinum Level, and our Diamond level will include all donations made over $100 per year. Our Kickoff Event was held November 9, 2005 at Saint Arnold Brewery and featured Dale Canelas, Director of the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries and John Ingram and Sandy Melching from Library Administration. We had a raffle at the Event of a football autographed by Urban Meyer and First Edition novels autographed by Gator authors Michael Connelly and Bob Morris with those who pledged $50.00 or more receiving raffle tickets. At the Event we raised $8,000.00 in cash and pledges and have since raised another $2,000.00, getting us off to a great start towards the $25,000.00 goal. We will continue to take pledges until the goal is met and will also be putting our raffle proceeds and other fund-raising efforts to this goal. If you would like your name on the plaque you need to get your pledge made prior to our reaching the goal. We are not only the first Gator Club to sponsor a Reading Nook but are the first sponsor of anything with a naming opportunity so we have a lot to be proud of here. |
